Google published a post on August 11, 2026 saying its research medical AI system, AMIE, now demonstrates real-time clinical video consultation capabilities. Google's medical AI can now hold a live video visit. Google Research shared the results today.
AMIE is built on Gemini and Project Astra. It reads visual and sound cues. It guides a virtual exam and reasons about a diagnosis in real time.
In a randomized study, patient actors held simulated visits. Clinical evaluators rated AMIE favorably on history taking, diagnosis and communication. The actors preferred video over text chat.
AMIE is still a research system. The visits were simulated, not real care. Google says more research is needed before responsible use in the clinic.
